Tithe Controversy: Members angrily walk out on Pastor

Image
THE raging controversy over tithing in churches, especially, the Pentecostals as reported in Nigerian Pilot Weekend became messier yesterday when members of the popular House on the Rock Church, Lagos angrily walked out on the General Overseer, Pastor Paul Adefarasin as he preached a sermon on tithing. According to accounts from some aggrieved members of the church, the Pastor was trying to underscore his call for them not to be swayed by media reports dissuading Christians from being “fleeced” by their Pastors as the Holy Bible does not support tithing. A viral video which circulated in the social media moments after the church service ended yesterday, showed members of the church walking out on Pastor Adefarasin during his preaching on Tithing. Recall that popular On Air Personality, Daddy Freeze has been in the news for his continuous opposition to tithing in the house of God. The same goes for controversial preacher and coordinator of Healing Wings, a Pentecostal Christian fellow

Why Zimbabwe has a 'Minister of WhatsApp' A spoof government notice hit social media as soon as President Robert Mugabe announced he had set up a new ministry responsible for Cyber Security, Threat Detection and Mitigation. Zimbabweans reacted with customary humour to the letter, which faked the signature and letterhead of the newly appointed cyber minister - Patrick Chinamasa - and instructed all WhatsApp group members to register with the ministry by November. The letter was signed "By The Cyber Powers Vested In Me". But the jokes have since subsided, and Zimbabweans are now considering what the new ministry will mean for their civil liberties - especially freedom of speech. President Robert Mugabe's spokesperson, George Charamba, says Mr Mugabe came up with the idea of a new ministry to deal with an "emerging threat to the state... a threat founded on abuse and unlawful conduct". But others say the government's stance is a threat to

He was speaking before world champion Lewis Hamilton drove him around the Circuit of the Americas in a Mercedes AMG sportscar, sending the car sliding into corners and ending with tyre-smoking spins. Bolt, who suffered the injury in his final race, the world championships 4 x 100 meters relay final, again ruled out any athletics comeback, saying he missed the laughs and banter but not the training and he was intending to start a family. Cristiano Ronaldo cancelled out Raphael Varane's own goal in the first half in the Spanish capital, but the holders could not find a way past the inspired Spurs keeper Hugo Lloris in their pursuit of a second. Both these teams had won their opening two group games and suitably delivered a match of high quality on Tuesday, in which both goalkeepers were forced into some stunning saves to keep the scores level. It was Spurs who struck first, with Varane inadvertently turning Serge Aurier's cross into his own net, before Ronaldo drew Madrid level with his fifth Champions League goal of the season. Simeone's Barca league continues as they share the spoils in an entertaining match Atletico Madrid's 1-1 draw against Barcelona on Saturday meant Diego Simeone has still yet to win a league match against the Catalan club. Saul Niguez's first-half strike looked to have secured the points for Atleti at the Wanda Metropolitano, but Luis Suarez headed home an equaliser in the 82nd minute. The draw stretched Simeone's winless streak to 12 matches against Barcelona in La Liga, as the Argentine manager has lost eight and drawn four times against the Blaugrana. Overall, Atleti have now gone 15 league matches without a win versus Barca - a run that stretches back to February 2010, almost two years prior to Simeone's appointment. Simeone has managed two wins against Barcelona in the Champions League however, winning 1-0 and 2-0 in the quarter-final second leg in 2013-14 and 2015-16, respectively.
